Why we build this

Gebeta boards are cut into stone at Aksum. Ge'ez has been written for more than fifteen centuries. Yet the apps children open every day almost never speak Tigrinya or Amharic.

Qalat makes games and tools that are as good as anything else on the phone, in the languages families actually use at home.

Checked words
Every word in Qal Connect and Qal Scramble is checked against published dictionaries, with room for the way people actually spell and speak.
No paywall to play
The games open in any browser on any phone. No paywalls, and no dark patterns to keep you tapping.
Made for families apart
Much of our audience is the diaspora: parents and grandparents passing a language to kids who hear it less every year.
